is not just an abbreviation, but a method that can change your perception of training

So, let's break it down by components:

M (myo) — comes from the Greek word "myos," meaning muscle. Muscles are the foundation of our movement, and everything related to them is important for training. Interesting fact: the word comes from the Latin "musculus," which translates as "little mouse."

It is believed that this name was given due to the resemblance of some muscles that, when contracted, move under the skin, strongly resembling the movement of a tailless mouse crawling under a mat. This visual comparison led to the naming of the tissues in our body responsible for movement.

Thus, the Latin word "mus," meaning "mouse," forms the familiar word "musculus."

F (fascial) — fascia, from the Latin "fascia," meaning "band." In anatomy, fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and separates muscles. There are many rumors and speculations around fascia.

Some people consider fascia something insignificant, while others believe fascia is everything. Who is right? I will try to answer this question in the following posts.

For now, I will leave the intrigue and tell you one of the facts about fascia. Connective tissue occupies at least 30% of muscle volume and is designed to transmit the force of muscle cells. Based on this, we can assume that "MFR" will also be relevant for gaining muscle mass.

R (release) — in this context, it means "freeing" or "releasing." The release process involves applying moderate pressure to soft tissues to accelerate the recovery process, improve lymph and hemodynamics, and thus more effectively nourish muscles and fascia.

What are "MFR" techniques used for?

Myofascial release is a massage technique used in sports, medicine, and, of course, in fitness to relax or activate muscles by affecting the receptors that determine these states. One of the most important effects of MFR is the ability to gently stretch tissues.

Here are a few more key benefits of using MFR techniques:

  • increased range of motion in joints;
  • improved muscle elasticity;
  • activation of "dormant" muscles;
  • reduced hypertonicity of tense muscles;
  • accelerated recovery processes after strength training;
  • reduced pain sensations;
  • improved metabolic processes in soft tissues.
